Postgraduate Program in Operational Research (PPG-PO)
Postgraduate Program in Operational Research (PPG-PO) an association between Univ. Fed. of São Paulo (UNIFESP) and Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA) was approved in 2015 by CAPES with grade 4.
Operational Research is an interdisciplinary field of applied mathematics, engineering, and computational science that uses several principles based on scientific research, strategies, and analytical methods - including mathematical modeling, statistics, and algorithms - to improve managerial decision-making capacity.

The PPG-PO researchers, in cooperation with other national and international institutions, conduct research in the lines of "Optimization Methods" and "Management and Decision Support".

This master's and doctoral program in Operational Research aims to train human resources by improving basic and advanced knowledge of Operational Research to meet the demands coming from industrial sectors and services and the national university system.

RESEARCH
Optimization Methods
This line groups research that focuses on the development of methods and models of operational research that generate accurate and approximate solutions to optimization problems.

Management and Decision Support
This line groups research that focuses on strategies, efficiency, structuring, statistics, to support decision making.
COURSES
Master
Course credits for the Master’s program are distributed with 5 (five) credits for compulsory subjects and 20 (twenty) for elective courses, giving an overall total of 25 (twenty-four) credits.
The minimum term for completing the Academic Master is 12 months, and the maximum is 24 months, starting from the month/ year of initial enrollment as a regular student until the month/ year of the actual defense of the dissertation.
Doctorate
45 credits are required to obtain a Doctorate degree, spread between compulsory and elective subjects. At the discretion of the Collegiate Program, credits can be used in the master’s degree to apply to the necessary credits to the doctorate according to the rules of the course. For the doctorate, the minimum term is 24 months, and the maximum is 48 months, starting from the month/ year of the initial enrollment as a regular student until the month/ year of the actual defense of the thesis.
Distribution for course credits are 10 for compulsory subjects and 35 for elective courses, amounting to an overall total of 45 credits.
HOW TO APPLY
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
Reception of foreign student
The Program offers continuous support to international students (non-residents in the country) who are attending Master, Doctorate or Post-Doctorate.
International exchange of Brazilian students
– Development of INTERUNIVERSITY EXCHANGE DOCTORATE (Sandwich Doctorate).
– Participation of PhD students in international events relevant to the area.
International Insertion of Teachers
- Joint publications with renowned international researchers and research projects, as well as missions and visits to international centers
- Participation of the teachers in the editorial body of qualified international scientific journals (ISI and Scopus)
- Impact of the publications of teachers of the Program and as a consequence an increase in the individual teachers’ h-index. - Participation in scientific committees of international congresses.
- Participation as session “chairs” or organization of “invited sessions”, and being “Keynote Speakers” with specific themes in international conferences
